In the Pavilion

Spoken word:
I am reminded as the sun sets and the forest becomes dark and strange and forbidding, of the time me and three friends took shrooms in the pavilion nearby. We were confined to that space by the rain, and an early spring chill. If you have never been on psychedelics before, here is some advice: Be with those you love dearly, be outdoors, and be able to run around and lose your mind. I remember a lightbulb in the ceiling that had somehow burst within its casing, spreading glowing blue luminescent liquid like a spiderweb all over the glass. The light it gave off was soft -- didn't seem to illuminate much but was present nonetheless, defined by its own substance rather than the absence of darkness around it. And I remember when a deer stopped in the field next to us in the spreading twilight. How we all stared into its eyes, shining even in the gloom. And how we all took off after it, bounding heedlessly into the rain.
Lyrics:
Whisper your secret in my ear/
Forest in the backdrop, and the water's lookin' clear/
I fear that we don't see, no we don't see what's in the dark/
and we're two cigarettes short of a good time/
but i'll drag on yours if you drag on mine/
I don't really mind, I don't really mind/
I feel a bit obliged to let you know/
that we're fine, that we're fine/

I can look around and see all you left/
I still see the ground outline your step/
just stay for a while/
just stay for a while/
stay for a while/
stay for a while/
You remember bright lights across the lake/
Cold December nights that make you shake/
just stay for a while/
just stay for a while/
stay for a while/
stay for a while/
So come around, come around, come around/
come on lay it down/
we can tread around on the aspen ground/
come on lay it down/
we can tread around on the aspen ground/

See it fall away/
I see the same damn face/
I recall a night when you came/
and we all felt your shame/
I notice your devilish smile/
and I fall apart in your arms/
Like the free heart of every child/
we can dream, we can dream, we can dream/

Come around, my darling/
Lemme see your mind/
Look at what we're carving/
Lemme call you mine/
We could start a fire/
Leave it all behind/
We could spread the ashes/
All we got is time/
Running out/
Strong emotions/
What did I do/
Strong emotions/
(Native Punk):
Still runnin' from you, love/
Chasing that feeling/
this far away from home/
Endless night, never slow/

Fall over your head/
fall over/
Run on back home/
they're missin' you/
And I wanna see you/
Fall over your head/
fall over/
Carve in your truth with the metal/
I know it's diggin' in/
Chase down the fox in the meadow/
I know it's kickin' in/
I see with my own eyes/
Over this again/
over you and your cold heart/

What coulda happened if he stayed there/
Lying underneath the sheets/
couldn't even really care/
for weeks/
Turn the lights off, turn the car round/
'cause we're skippin' town/
we don't live here, we don't live here/
no, we just come around/
Turn the lights off, turn the car round/
'cause we're skippin' town/
we don't live here/
no, we just come around/
(Native Punk)
in waves/
In waves/
Few habits left to break/
In waves/
Turn the lights off, turn the car round/
'cause we're skippin' town/
we don't live here, we don't live here/
no, we just come around/
Turn the lights off, turn the car round/
'cause we're skippin' town/
we don't live here/
no, we just come around/

We stroll through New York City/
and the lights shine down/
'cause you're too pretty/
and I don't feel like I owe you/
much of anything at all/
much of anything at all/
fall, fall, fall, fall/
well we went to the park, and we saw a big dog/
and we played our music, and sang along/
and we sat on the bench with a lit cigarette/
and we talked about life and all our regrets/
fall, fall, fall, fall/
We stroll through New York City/
and the lights shine down/
'cause you're too pretty/
and I don't feel like I owe you/
much of anything at all/
much of anything at all/

Well I take my time/
and lie by your side/
'cause we all die/
'cause we all die/
But I still wait around/
for the sound of your voice/
So come on back up now/
The ground's getting cold/
And you're all alone/
And you're all alone/
But I still wait around/
for the sound of your voice/
in the middle of the night/
when I'm cold and tired/
